Friends of the Library
Libraries continue to be viable, thriving community resources for one reason: the people they serve. We welcome all patrons of the Lorain Public Library System to not only take advantage of all that we have to offer, but to support the library system by joining one of our Friends groups.
The “Friends of the Library” groups support our libraries through volunteering or fundraising activities:
- Friends provide help as requested by a library liaison to the group. They volunteer at entertaining and educational programs and are advocates for their local branch, actively participating in local branch levy campaigns and supporting the mission and vision of the Lorain Public Library System.
- Through fundraising activities such as book sales, the Friends finance library programs, help purchase equipment for the library, make improvements to the building and grounds and provide monies for projects that cannot be funded through the library’s budget.
Friends groups are distinct non-profit entities, and not part of Lorain Public Library System. Lorain Public Library System is honored to have five different Friends groups, each with their own set of meeting dates, book sales and dues. The groups are each led by a President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer, who are elected by the voting members of that Friends group.
The benefits of joining one of these groups include a preview of book sales, the satisfaction of knowing you are contributing to the enrichment of your community and the joy of establishing new friendships. Membership forms are available at all Lorain Public Library System branches and on the individual Friends pages on this site.
For more information regarding meeting dates, book sale dates and dues, visit the Friends page of your local branch.
Each Friends group gladly accepts donations of books and DVDs for their book sales. For more information regarding what kinds of donations they can accept and when, please click here.
