Understanding Black Music Through Black History

Presented virtually by Dr William "Ted" McDaniel, professor of African American Studies and Music at the Ohio State University. Utilizing recorded music, various aspects and periods of black history will be explored by examining the music of each era from the worksongs and spirituals of slavery through the rap of modern urban times. Special focus will be given to the history of jazz music in American culture.

Preregistration is recommended, not required, if attending in-person. Those who wish to attend virtually should pre-register by the day before the program date. Preregistration required.
